How To Run Rainbox Six 3 Raven Shield Dedicated Server (RvSDS) as a FireDaemon Service
Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield Dedicated Server can be run as a Windows Service using FireDaemon. This is how to set it up:
Download and Install RvSDS
Download and unpack the RvSDS standalone server (the dedicated server is included on the retail CDs) to the directory of your choice. In this HOWTO we are using the standalone server. Try downloading from
3D Gamers. v1.31 was the latest at the time of writing! Update/patch as appropriate!
Setup Your server.ini File
RvSDS needs one file to be configured correctly before the dedicated server can launch: server.ini. This file is found in the system directory of your installation (eg. D:\RvSDS\system). This file can be edited with a text editor such as Notepad. Please read the Howto.txt in the top level directory of your RvSDS installation for detailed description of all the configuration directives.
Install FireDaemon Pro
FireDaemon can be downloaded
from here.
Configure FireDaemon
Double click the FireDaemon desktop icon:
Create a new service by clicking on the
Create a new service definition button in the toolbar or typing Ctrl+N. The New Service Definition dialog will be displayed. Fill out the fields in the Program tab as follows (adjust paths to suite your installation):
The most important field on the tab is the Parameters. The Parameters defines the Server.ini file to use.
Now click on the Settings tab. If you want to see your dedicated server running, check the Interact with Desktop check box. You can optionally run RvSDS as the user you installed it as. In the Logon Account field type your username (eg. Administrator) and then enter the user's password twice in the Password and Confirm fields.
Now click on the Advanced tab. If you intend to change the Process Priority please ensure you change the Job Type to Global Job.
Now click on the Dependencies tab. Make sure the service depends on the lanmanworkstation (Workstation) service to ensure the TCP/IP and CIFS stacks are both up prior to starting RvSDS.
Now click on the Install button to install and start RvSDS as a FireDaemon Service!
